Ok, this is not actually a question, but a solution to the problem stated above.
In the past few days, I have been seriously hacking through SysAid to get it to do what I want (I have very demanding bosses).

REQUIREMENTS
You must at least know how to create custom fields. https://www.sysaid.com/Sysforums/templates/default/help/files/CustomizeEntities.htm

NOTE
I did this on an in-house SysAid v9.1.02 b71 Enterprise Edition running on MySQL installation.
I am not responsible for any damage you cause to your system.
The user is represented by the username. In our case, DOMAINNAME\username

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Create A custom Text field on your required entity.
2) Now, go to edit it. In the Advanced tab, look in the Display in Form field.

The first two lines should look like this

Take a note of the column name as

3) The last couple of lines should be something like

4) Replace the out.append line with

Remember to replace {{YOUR_INPUT_NAME}} with the column name you found above.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks but this givers username. How we can show the Name of the person rather then his user id?

This won't work since the value that sysaid saves to identify the user is the username. I did try to use the inbuilt combo box but could not get it to work.

This is better than nothing and works for us so.

Do we need to change only the last out.append line.

In my case it is

out.append("</td>");
