With the zero day exploit affecting
all versions of Internet Explorer, Windows systems are now vulnerable to remote
code execution. While waiting for a
patch from Microsoft, there is one quick workaround that can help prevent
computers from falling victim to this bug, and that’s unregistering
vgx.dll. The only downside to
unregistering vgx.dll is that now webpage graphics using vector markup language
(VML) won’t render correctly. The
good news is not many websites use VML graphics, and this solution can be a
quick temporary workaround until Microsoft releases a patch.

a dll is a powerful tool in Windows, and something
that almost any person will come across at one point in trying to fix Windows
problems, so now is not a bad time to learn about it.

1. To begin,
launch a command prompt. This can
be done in Windows 7 by clicking on the Start menu, typing in “
class=SpellE>cmd” at the search textbox, and hitting “Enter:”

For Windows 8, getting to the command prompt takes a few
extra clicks. Move the mouse to the
lower right screen so the charms bar appears.

“cmd” and you should see the command prompt appear on
the left. Click on it:

2. Now that your
command prompt is available, type in

Shared\VGX\vgx.dll".

Don’t forget, once Microsoft releases a patch it’s a good idea to
register vgx.dll. Thankfully, the
process is very simple. As before,
launch a command prompt and type the command regsvr32 "%
class=SpellE>CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\VGX\vgx.dll".

As with all Windows computers, it’s a good idea to restart after
registering or unregistering a DLL.
