What causes duplicate assets to be created by an agent?

Check if the asset ID is different. In the asset configuration file, check the asset ID tag.

I would like to expand on @iulian.olaru’s response (which is absolutely relevant, so don’t forget to check that as well).

So, when it comes to those duplicate assets, there are a couple more things to think about:

1. Did you do that from a clone machine or Sysprep? If so, the same asset will be duplicated.

2. Check if there's a "random asset ID" setting hanging around. If it's turned on, every time you redeploy or update, the system assigns a fresh asset ID. This can totally contribute to a bunch of duplicates popping up.
